Our ongoing partnership with the Dept of Astrophysics , Oxford marked our first event of the year when several CNAAG members travelled down to Oxford to take part in their public event as part of the Stargazing Oxfordshire initiative on Saturday 17th January . Mike Frost , Astronomer and Director of the Historical Association of the BAA was our first guest speaker of the year presenting a talk , in his own inimitable and entertaining style about ‘How to lose Weight’ referring to the mass of galaxies, on Monday 19th January in the Methodist Hall – very well received
Our fist major 10th anniversary event took place at Long Compton recreation ground on Saturday 24th Jan thankfully under a clear cold sky. The cricket pavillion was opened up and we enjoyed hot food and beverages courtesy of the sports committee.Lots of public interest with several potential new members – a great start to our public events. Mel Gigg managed to get one of his pictures of the event on to the front page of the Banbury Guardian , great stuff .
Our outreach programme swing into action and brought Januarys events to a close with a triple whammy of Wooten , Sibford and Charlbury primary schools on the 27th , 28th& 29th of Jan. Sadly only Sibford managed clear skies where the Moon and Jupiter could be seen . Despite that the talks were well received at the other venues where we will return to on a clear night.
